Why is health insurance so costly? Let me count the ways . . .
Last month, my 11 year old son took a line drive in the shoulder during an evening baseball game. Taken to the e-room by his mom, just in case, because he was in a lot of pain and swelling fast, he was triaged into the cool-your-heels category.
Hours later, well after midnight, he finally got his x-ray and was cleared — nothing broken; just take Ibuprofen and ice it.
Today I see the bill, all expected to be paid by insurance.
$608.00.
I refuse to believe there’s not a more efficient way to x-ray a potential broken bone and send a kid on his way in time to get some sleep and some benefit from the Ibuprofen and ice, which was delayed at least four hours, and do it for $100 or so. I doubt more than 15 minutes of doctor time was involved.
