KISS: Keep It Simple, Stupid (Your career website, that is)
With all of the emphasis on complicated and technically sophisticated job websites, like the one used by the U.S. Army, one might think “simple and plain” might not work so well. Thanks to interbiznet.com, I was recently made aware of the job website used by
Schneider National (logistics and transportation), which proves that simple and plain can be quite effective.
Specifically, this job website has nice pictures, good text, and is simple to use. To me, it says a lot about this organization and why someone would wish to work there.
In addition to information about the benefits program, the locations, and other relevant things, this website provides information about the kind of interviews they conduct. They use structured interviews, I am pleased to say. Here is a sample question they provide:
Provide a specific example of a time when you sold your supervisor or professor on an idea or concept. How did you proceed? What was the result?
This website even provides some of the pay information for certain jobs!
I learned the KISS principle about 20 years ago, and I think it is still relevant today!
