More on exit interviews

August 10, 2004

I noticed a fair amount of reader interest in my earlier posts on exit interviews here and here . So I’m now passing along a couple of more items on exit interviews that may be helpful.

HR Matters E-Tips (subscribe free here) circulated these Exit Interview Tips.

A good basic point:

First, it’s important to understand exactly what an exit interview is — and what it isn’t. An exit interview should not be confused with the meeting at which notice of termination is given. Rather, it is a meeting conducted after the termination decision, whether voluntary or involuntary, has been made and communicated.
Suggested questions, administrative issues to cover, and uses of the information obtained are all covered.

Next, a reader’s comment to one of my prior posts alerted me to her company’s interesting product: WebExitTM Online Exit Interview Management System. This company’s site also has a number of interesting articles on exit interviews and recruiting.

(This blawg is not endorsing this product, nor is this a paid ad. It’s just a tip to look at an interesting product that may prove useful after you have investigated it and available alternatives.)
