Not long ago, I posted some information about resume lies. Here is some updated information on this topic.
I’ll start with a mini-quiz:
1. What percentage of resumes, based on 7,000 resumes, do you think contained some misrepresentation (keep in mind that many more misrepresentations may simply not be caught!)?
2. Can you guess what the Complete Book of Reference Checking estimated was the number of misrepresentations in 1971? 1991?Answers follow next……..
Answer 1: 23 % of 7000 resumes studied had some “misrepresentation” in them.
Answer 2: According to the Complete Book of Reference Checking (1998) misrepresentations doubled from 17% in 1971 to 36% in 1991.
More information is available from CareerXRoads website.
By the way in terms of Answer 1, the study showed that 71 % errors in time in-the-job or hire/termination dates; 64% were exaggerated accomplishments, and 48% noted a partial degree as a full degree.
