What Does A Correlation of -.30 Look Like: Statistical Tools on the Internet
The Internet offers some useful sites containing statistical tools of various kinds. A couple of months ago, I posted some entries about how the courts use statistics, including issues of statistical significance , and for other purposes. I find that the best way to explain what a correlation coefficient is by going to this website and demonstrating the scatterplots for different correlations. I think this website is particularly helpful in that regard. You can look and see for yourself what a correlation of say, -.30, looks like. You might be surprised!
Another website that may be useful is this one. Among the various tools it offers is a Fisher r-to-z transformation link, p-values (i.e., statistical significance levels) for correlation coefficients, and other items of possible value.
