Another NPR drivetime audio link: trucking industry confronts shortage of Interstate "cowboys"
I won’t turn this Blawg into a running ad for NPR, it just happens that this morning I heard another fine story I want to pass on.
Here’s the synopsis:
Truck drivers make a good living these days. Their average pay has increased significantly over the last few years. But many trucking companies can’t find enough people who want to be drivers. In addition to increasing pay, one company is trying to make sure drivers get enough quality time at home.
The story mentions using GPS to coordinate routes and loads in order to maximize drivers’ at-home time, making one of the least family-friendly jobs a little more so.
