Elefant’s Blawg Review # 21 fascinates

Carolyn Elefant’s My Shingle is one of the longest-running and consistently best law blogs (blawgs). Carolyn is also a blogging evangelist, talking up blogging for solo and small firm lawyers, her target audience, every chance she gets.

(Apologies to Carolyn for the crude poking-fun-at-her-name photo, but I figure she’s used to it by now).

So it was with great expectation that I looked for the Elefant-My Shingle edition of Blawg Review, which came out today.

Carolyn did not disappoint. Though not as edgy as some recent editions, she carried through a clear and meaningful theme and used it to present many attention-getting Blawg posts.

A few of my faves:

The Standard Disclaimer from “Transblawg, Weblog on German-English legal translation” (now there’s a niche topic!) I love disclaimers too.

ProfessorBainbridge.com writes: “The Jury System and the Vioxx Verdict,” tough and right-on commentary on the horribly anti-medical-progress message such verdicts send, plus the jury’s evident disregard for the scientific evidence.

Ernie The Attorney: “Legal problems - what exactly is a legal problem?” uses reflection on a bar exam question to make an excellent point about many lawyers’ weakness of always looking exclusively through their “think like a lawyer” lens, when in the end we are dealing with human problems. By the way, Ernie lives in New Orleans and will be blogging some on the impact of katrina on his beloved home town.

Underneath Their Robes has two posts on whether Judge Roberts is gay. Who cares? If you do care for legal-socio-political reasons, or just like the outrageous gossip-column style of this blog (or haven’t seen it yet), do take a look.

My weekly update is coming, with a back-to-school theme, but delayed by events beyond my control . . . like writing this post.

Hi George, I just saw your post. The Elefant photo brought back memories of many Elefant-related stories that have followed me throughout my life. Back in junior high, I used to run for office (always lost), my slogan was “An Elefant Never Forgets.” Another one in law school that is a little too embarrassing to publish in the blogsphere. Thanks for the link
