Gettin’ Rich in 2006: Crystal Ball Views On Compensation Increases in 2006

With the start of 2006 about 164 days away from us, the experts are already making predictions about compensation trends for next year. The latest predictions come from Mercer Human Resource Consulting, who predict that raises will average about

3.6% next year, about what they were in 2005. In addition, compared to 2002, when 16% of companies had a pay freeze, only 2% of companies expect a pay freeze in 2006.

The more interesting question, of course, may be what the economy is like, particularly in terms of inflation rate. According to one psychic prediction registry made in March of 2005, we may have some major increases in unemployment and inflation, and rioting will result. Don’t laugh — this same posting predicted that “Oil will hit $60 a barrel by the end of the year (2005), and stay above $60. Look for $3 gas!”
