Hot Trends In Recruitment and Selection

Now, thanks to ERExchange.com, we have a nice update from Kevin Wheeler on four hot trends in recruitment and selection.

Paraphrasing somewhat, he identifies what is OUT:

1. Job Boards;

2. Contingency/retained search;

3. Workforce planning;

4. Turnover.

He also identifies what is IN:

1. Referrals/Networking;

2.Recruitment Process Outsourcing;

3. Talent strategy;

4. Retention.

What is talent strategy? According to Wheeler, talent strategy means examining the kinds of competencies that will be needed in the next few years, and then comparing those needs with the current competencies. Based on the types of gaps, an organization then decides whether to promote, transfer, terminate, and so forth.

In my opinion, this is just a new name for HR planning!

Read here for more on the nature of these new trends affecting recruitment and selection.
