HR/Employment Blogosphere update for March 21, 2005
Soon I hope to try a bold new experiment with this feature.
In preparing this update each weekend for Monday morning publication, I’ve been torn between the wish to make it a pretty short and simple list of links with minimal commentary, and the irresistable urge to comment.
Giving in to the latter urge makes the project consume inordinate amounts of my time, and results in unwieldy posts like last week’s.
Kevin O’Keefe of LexBlog (”Building Blogs for Lawyers”) suggested that I try a pseudo-podcast, simply listing the links and then recording my comments to an audio file that I upload and link to the blog.
(To understand why it would not quite be a real podcast, see this wikipedia definition)
Potentially, best of both worlds: I can say more about the posts, more quickly, by just speaking into a microphone. If you want to hear my words of wisdom, you listen. If not, you just click through on links that sound interesting.
Unfortunately, I got hung up learning the recording software, and was unable to complete the recording in time. So here are the bare-naked links for this week’s update. Hopefully audio next time!
Start with four from About.com Human Resources Blog, edited by Susan Heathfield:
“Top Six Work-Life Balance Books: Your Family-Friendly Future” by Susan M. Heathfield
“Top Ten Ways to Turn Off a New Employee” by Susan M. Heathfield
“Employee Orientation: Keeping New Employees on Board” by Judith Brown
“Rise Above the Fray: Options for Dealing With Difficult People at Work” by Susan M. Heathfield
Next, from Ross Runkel’s Arbitration Blog:
“Court, not arbitrator, decides waiver issue”
“How not to set up an arbitration system”
“Federal jurisdiction to enforce arbitration agreement”
“Arbitration agreement unconscionable under Washington law”
Janell Grenier’s BenefitsBlog has this timely notice about a notice:
Janell also has this story, widely picked up in the media earlier this month:
“Conference Board Report on Job Satisfaction”
Advancing Insights [. . . intelligently cultivating ideas . . .] has this:
“How an idea, a turkey, a pump, made sales bounce”
CathColl.net has these two, drawn straight from her HR experience:
“there’s a reason to write a clear résumé”
From Contingent Workforce.org:
“Workplace Health Promotion Programs Show 16:1 Return on Investment”
“Third Circuit on Definition of Disability”
New Blog, with attitude:
“Shut-Up And Smile: If you have a story to share about toxic workplaces – what it feels like to work in such environments, how it effects daily operations, and how to get out of such a condition—then this is the blog for you.”
Next, The Employment Law Bulletin:
Finally, The Greater Valley Forge HR Law Link:
