Judge Rules Chicago Fire Department Test To Be Discriminatory

In a recent ruling, a judge ruled that the Chicago Fire Department’s test was biased against African-Americans. The ruling,


which criticizes several aspects of the test, such as athe test

featured an 83-minute videotape that made up 85 percent of the total score, [but] measured only note-taking skills, which rated last among identifiable abilities for Chicago firefighters

According to one estimate, damages to African-Americans could be as high as 80 million dollars. There were more than 6,000 class members in the suit.
