It’s been a while since we blogged on the overtime rules.
They were a big news topic when they were at issue politically in Washington, both legislatively and in the presidential campaign. Likewise when the new rules first took effect.
Now they are back in the news, as anecdotal evidence of increased overtime litigation drifts in.
A recent article says:
The government’s recent attempt to reduce overtime lawsuits has thrown the doors wide open for still more litigation,
according to labor attorneys across the country who argue that the 7-month-old federal overtime laws are roiling the workplace.
Many plaintiffs’ lawyers say that the new overtime rules — which went into effect last August and which defined more narrowly who is eligible for overtime — heightened awareness among many employees who did not know of their overtime rights before, and are now either seeking legal advice or filing suit.
