Recruitment Sources in 2004: Where Companies Are Hiring From
CareerXroads has just released its latest survey of companies to determine the sources they are getting the people they hire from. Always interesting to see this information, whether you are responsible for hiring people or whether you are looking for a job.
Anyhow, if you are interested in learning what sources companies are most likely to hire from, what % of open positions are filled with internal candidates, and which job boards produce the most people hired, then read on!
1. More than a third (38%) of open positions are filled by internal candidates. Note that this reflects an increase over the last few years (e.g., 34.2% of positions were filled with internal hires in 2002).
2. Companies are relying heavily on employee referrals (31.7% of external hires) and almost as heavily on the Internet (29.6%).
3. The Internet as source breaks down this way; 53% of all of the Internet hires came through the company website. All other sites combined for almost 17%, Monster.com (8.6%), CareerBuilder (8.1%), and HotJobs.com (6.1%) are thre three biggest job board sources.
4. Finally, the survey asked respondents to evaluate how “productive” each of about 9 different sources were for diversity hiring. Company affinity groups and employee referrals were rated as the two highest in terms of effectiveness, ahead of diversity career fairs, dedicated diversity recruiters, and agencies. The authors caution, however, that this information is based on perceptions, not data.
