Romance in the workplace update: survey results

February 22, 2005

Maybe you didn’t get enough on the subject of workplace romance from our Valentine’s Day posts here and here. Or maybe you’re just always curious about survey results and how your workplace compares to others.

In any event, HRHero.com did a survey on workplace romance and the results are published here:

Romance in the Workplace (I get this as a subscriber, but I’m hoping this link works for everyone.)

Among the results:

66% of respondents agreed that workplace romance is “unstoppable, so let’s limit the damage.”

43% have “No policy, no rules, no nothing” on this subject.

Only 2% have ever used a “love contract.”

There are responses to many additional survey questions, as well as 365 responses (one for every day of the year!) to this open-ended question: “What’s your craziest or most memorable experience in dealing with romance in your workplace? It can be funny, happy, sad, or unbelievable — but please, no graphic details.”

I didn’t read nearly all of them, but of the ones I did I like this one the best:

A woman was undergoing a sex change to a male and she/he became sexually attracted to the female manager and began sending romantic letters, songs, etc. The subordinate was still a female because no surgical procedure had been performed yet so, they still used the same bathroom.
