I have been following the surge of interest in vertical job search on this blog to some degree, and I think it is rather interesting (See earlier postings here, such as this one).
Joel Cheesman continues to follow developments on his blog, listing various
enhancements that are slowly occuring, such as this one. He argues that Google is providing links to sub-pages from a Web site via its search results. That way, for example, someone who searches the term “Boeing” may also come across its “jobs” page.
He also argues that vertical job search done this way will help generate those passive candidates that have been spoken about so much.
Now, as to the title of this posting, “Slaying the Monster…,” Cheesman provides a paper, which quotes the FORMER president of Monster.com as saying that vertical job search is the beginning of the end for Monster and CareerBuilder job boards…. Go here to read more on this.
Who knows? There seems to be a lot of hype about this vertical job search.

Michael, thanks for keeping up with some postings while I’ve been up all hours with my summary judgment reply work.
Can you give (or find) a concise definition of “vertical job search?” The physical metaphor of “vertical” kind of escapes me.
I understand we’re talking about mass access to unpaid listings on co. websites via search engine technology vs. centralized paid listings like Monster. (Why pay when you can have it free?) Am I right?
But what’s “vertical” about it?
