Vertical Job Search Engines: The Latest Approach to Internet Recruitment

In the apparently never ending list of innovations in Internet Recruitment, let me introduce Vertical Job Search Engines (VJSE). Also referred to as “Direct-to-Employer” Systems, they focus on directly connecting job searchers with premium employers. So how do you become a “premium employer?” Well, one way is to

be willing to pay for each click generated by the search engine!

Actually, having tried out a couple of these VJSEs, there is something elegant about them. Other apparent advantages of the VJSE method include the fact that they connect the job seeker directly to the company’s website (so there is no third party involved), and they supposedly will produce more qualified applicants (remains to be seen!).

Try out indeed.com or simplyhired.com and see what you think!

    Michael:

VJSE’s are an interesting breed. Fetchster.com, a Minnesota Job search engine, takes an approach similar to SimplyHired. But, we’re different in that our technology searches the websites of the companies hiring, rather than searching other job boards or getting content from other 3rd parties. Indeed appears to do the same.

Fetchster.com is a Minnesota-only job search engine. That is, we only focus on employment opps here in the state, so I can’t speak with 100% accuracy about the models of SimplyHired, Indeed, or any of the other VJSE’s in the market. If either of the two companies would like to contact me for clarification, that would be great!

The notion of an entity providing a “snapshot” of all the jobs available in a given area is an enticing one. But, it’s also very challenging. The amount of job content available online is staggering, and to catalog it and serve it up is quite a task.

But that’s the great thing about technology - it enables competition. 3 years ago Monster, CB, and a few others were kings of the online employment hill.

Now, thanks to some hard work and a little elbow grease, companies like Indeed, SimplyHired, and regional services like Fetchster are slowly closing in on the established players. Ultimately, it makes for a more enjoyable experience for the job-seeker!

The job search market is indeed hotting up and in the long run I believe that is the jobseeker that would benefit from any fallouts in the sector. It is going to get more interesting when more sites like Biohealthmatics and HealthCareerNet provide job searches within particular industries.
