According to a recent survey by Monster.com, college educated, ethnically diverse job seekers heavily use the Internet for job-seeking.
Big surprise, huh?
What might be more interesting is what internet sources they most heavily use, which internet sources they least are likely to use, and what other, non-Internet sources they are most/least likely to use.
The answers may surprise you somewhat:
According to the report, college educated, ethnically diverse job seekers are most likely to use (% is percentage of respondents indicating they used the source):
- Company websites (57%)
- Local job websites (50%)
- National internet recruitment websites (probably includes Monster.com) (47%).
What internet sources were much lower in terms of use?
- Diversity-specific online job sites! (24%)
- Trade/industry specific websites (24%)
- College/university/almuni sites (24%)
- Government sponsored websites (26%)
Well, I still don’t think this means that employers should shun these latter sources, because some diverse candidates do use them.
Finally, some non-internet sources that ethnically diverse candidates use in relatively low numbers:
Help wanted signs (11%)
Headhunters/recruitment firms (17%)
All in all, some interesting results to look at, huh? Unfortunately, I can’t find the source of this interesting report….I suggest you try monster.com and eventually you should be able to find it!
