You’re Too Young: New Changes in Child Labor Laws
With all the attention to the new overtime pay regulations, it seems like almost no one has noticed some new changes in child labor laws (including me!).
The Kamer, Zucker, and Abbott law firm, however, has posted a nice summary of some key changes, which become effective on
February 14, 2005.
The changes listed in this posting include:
1. granting some, limited, driving tasks that may be performed by 17-year olds;
2. modernization of the types of kitchen work and cooking 14- and 15-year-olds are permitted to perform;
3. expanded provisions regarding minors working in roofing occupations;
4. violations of the child labor laws now set at $11,000 per violation.
If you want all of the details, go to the DOL document.
