Cupid Draw Back Your Bow and Let Your Arrow Go; Straight to My Coworker’s (?) Heart….

February 13, 2006

Last year, around February 14, we described the results of a survey concering romance at work.

Given the season, it is time to summarize the updated version of the survey for you. Although similar in some ways to last year’s results, this year’s results do show some interesting changes in romance at work. So here goes . . .

Similar to last year, about half of the respondents indicated that they have dated a coworker; but compared to last year, when nearly half felt it was important to keep the romance a secret, just over 1/3 feel that way this year.

So where does this workplace romance begin:

  • 22% indicated that the romance began when they worked on a project together.
  • 11% said it began when they happened upon each other after hours.
  • 10% responded that the romance began during “happy hour.”

Clearly, there are some tips here for how to get that romance started!

Now, whom are people dating at work?

  • 21% said they were dating their boss, an increase from just 14% last year!
  • 40% said they dated someone higher up in the organization.
  • *Finally, and most interestingly, if you are a man, dating your boss seems to help more than if you are a woman. Specifically, 25% of men said it helped their careers, while only 13% of women said that.

Hey, bosses, better beware of the potential of sexual harassment charges when the romance goes sour or your wife finds out! In any case, enjoy your Valentine’s day
