Fundamentals of Being a Good Trainer/Presenter
June 26, 2006I’m always on the prowl for new insights into workplace training/presenting. Who isn’t? One can always improve on one’s training and presenting skills.
Recently, I found a blog that listed the 10 attributes of an effective trainer. I like what they are and how they are explained. Not that I haven’t heard of each of them before, but in some ways, they are described in a unique way.
So, I bring to you what I think are some of the more valuable attributes:
- Effective training begins with the ability to establish a rapport with your audience.
- Have an assortment of examples and analogies.
- Express each concept in terms the attendees can relate to.
- A strong finish is needed for any delivery to be successful (Note: this is one of the most difficult things to do as a trainer/presenter. After years of trying, I found the best technique is to have some kind of game, in which the winner(s) are announced at the end).
The post, on the Canadian IT Manager blog, goes into more details on these and other major attributes; I recommend you go and read the details here.
