How Not to Respond to a Harassment Complaint

Of course, these are only allegations. On the other hand, the EEOC apparently is litigating the case, suggesting there may be something to it.

A federal lawsuit claims that female employees of a suburban Chicago bar were sexually harassed by managers.

EEOC alleges one woman who asked for a meeting to discuss problems at the Satisfied Frog bar was told the meeting would only be held in a hotel room and she would have to remove her pants.

Not exactly the response that would allow the employer to claim the affirmative defense based on reasonable efforts to prevent and correct harassment.

Sounds like the comlaint went to managers who themselves were part of a harassing environment.

Illustrates importance of complaint procedure sending complaints to higher management and/or HR, not on-site direct supervision.
