I’m Back from Dallas, TX Conference
May 9, 2006I was away from home for a few days, at a conference for Industrial Psychologists, presenting several papers and meeting various friends and colleagues. I also spent some time visiting friends in Dallas. Big homes there!
My paper presentations concerned various topics ranging from the Daubert standard and expert witness testimony in the court, to employee reactions to the reasonable accommodation that they receive, to the effect of globization on our profession.
The biggest attendance was for my panel on employment discrimination, which included my presentation on the Daubert standard. Other presenters on my panel covered
*Discrimination based on weight (the presenter concluded that there was little protection for employees or applicants);
*the ADA’s effect on MMPI testing in the workplace (the presenter argued that there is alot of misinformation on this subject);
*litigation against assessment centers (the presenter asserted that assessment centers have generally fared well in litigation, but that new types of lawsuits (e.g., equal protection) have led to new challenges);
*and a presentation on cut scores and discrimination (a number of recent court cases have revolved around the cutoff scores used; some circuits have ruled in favor of the plaintiffs on this issue, others have ruled in favor of the defense. Clearly, this is a hot issue).
If you would like a copy of my Powerpoint slides on the Daubert standard, send me an email at: mharris@easiconsult.com
Oh, I never did get to see the JFK building where Oswald shot at him, and the fine museum that is housed there.
