More on Emotional Intelligence
Thanks, Michael, for raising the topic of emotional intelligence. I decided to do some quick research to pull up a few more resources on emotional intelligence in the workplace to share with our readers
A quick Google search yielded some interesting and useful sites:
- “Does ‘emotional intelligence’ matter in the workplace?” (Summarizes basic emotional intelligence theory advanced by psychologist Daniel Goleman, PhD., along with criticisms of it; indicates Goleman says “the real value of the growing work on emotional intelligence is its implications for workplace training.”)
- “Your Career and Emotional Intelligence” (Includes discussion of emotional intelligence training, says: “More careers derail due to poor emotional behaviors than lack of technical skills. . . . By incorporating emotional intelligence into the training culture, the organization can enjoy higher productivity and less . . . turnover of talented workers.”)
- “Leadership Skills for Managers” (Training program including substantial emotional intelligence components; undoubtedly only one example of dozens or hundreds.)
- “The Business Case for Emotional Intelligence” (Great discussion of bottom-line impact of emotional intelligence; led me to the home page of The Consortium for Research on Emotional Intelligence in Organizations.)
Here’s my Google search on emotional intelligence and employment.
And a few books:
There are many more! Search for them here:
