I think these surveys are pretty close to meaningless. People generally go into engineering because they want to, and the money is gravy. If you don’t like the math/science aspect you won’t survive a quality program.
There is no equivalent professional degree for business. The vast majority of entry-level jobs are as open to drama majors as they are to econ geeks, and if it’s a customer-facing position, the drama major may do better. Internships and extracurriculars can also outweigh major as a deciding factor.
To the extent that finance/econ majors make more right out of the gate, it’s probably because they’re choosing to pursue the kinds of jobs that pay more to begin with, sort of the way that journalism majors probably make crap.
