AIDS, Multiple Sclerosis, and Diabetes are not "minor human frailties." They are chronic diseases, affecting many people everyday. ADA legislation was not created to ease the burden of HR professionals. They will have to adjust to the new standards. I can imagine this won't be too daunting, as REAL minor human frailties will still be excluded.

As an HR professional, i can see a need for a more timely and well-thought out response to ADA claims, but I am concerned about the inclusion of minor human frailties. Who among us has none? So would we all be protected? Training for and around all possible weaknesses could quickly become an HR nightmare!

ADA coverage should be expanded to include person's afflicted with AIDS, Multiple Sclerosis, and Diabetes. As a diabetic, I find it extremely irritating to know that when I have excellent management of my blood sugar levels I am not considered disabled, and when I have poor management of blood sugars I am considered disabled. The better I manage my disease, the less protection the original ADA legislation provides for me. I don't think that is what the original ADA legislatures meant at all.
