Hiring temporary workers for basic office clerical positions has long helped understaffed businesses run smoothly. Now the use of temporary employees is expanding to many other roles in today’s businesses.
Employers are beginning to hire individuals with executive-level experience on an interim basis. With the immediate future of the economy uncertain, and many at the top of the corporate ladder nearing retirement age, there is a need for those who can immediately take over the responsibilities associated with executive jobs.
Temporary executive jobs are different from consulting positions. Jody Miller, co-founder of Business Talent Group, a Los Angeles firm specializing in temporary executive placements, says that “These are situations where companies need someone who knows how to execute and operate, not just analyze.”
Instead of just being a fill in, those who take on temporary executive jobs are expected to work closely with other employees and make important decisions that could potentially change the future of the business.
Although these types of temporary jobs usually have base salaries that are typical for those with this level of experience, they usually lack medical and other benefits. Due to the fact that temping at the top can easily take one all over the globe, many employers do, however, cover the cost of housing.
The popularity of using interim workers to fill executive level jobs will likely continue to grow in the near future, at least until the next generation takes over the positions that retiring baby-boomers have left behind and the economy settles.
Those interested in temporary jobs in an executive field should contact a recruiter who specializes in this area of employment.
Still, it’s important to remember that social networking is more important for executive level workers. In many circumstances tapping into the information that one’s contacts might have can lead to an opportunity of which recruiters were unaware. Online social networking tools such as LinkedIn are great for this purpose.
