Jobless claims down slightly, retail sales up slightly

Reuters reports: “U.S. jobless claims eased last week and retail sales inched higher in May, the government said on Thursday in reports that painted a moderately positive picture of the economy.”

Retail sales grew 0.1 percent. Taking out the gasoline component, which fell, retail sales gained 0.4 percent.

First-time unemployment claims fell 17,000 to 430,000.
