Love and Romance: Forget those online dating services and just go to work!
Forget all that stuff about online dating…..go to work and find romance! Want to guess what percentage of managers claim to have found their spouse at work? Take a guess before you read further, and then find out what companies feel about employee dating!
So, what did you guess was the percentage of managers who marry someone they met at work?
According to this 2003 survey by the American Management Association, 12% of managers marry someone they met at work! Specifically, 30% of those replying said they have dated someone at work and 44% reported that they married that person. Another 23% of those who said they dated someone at work had a “long-term” relationship with him or her.
This same survey reported that only 12% of their companies have a written policy on employee dating; and 67% of respondents felt it was okay to date someone at work. Men and women were roughly similar in their approval of workplace dating.
Worried about people in the company finding out about your dating? 70% of respondents said that coworkers knew about the romantic relationship, but 85% said it had no effect on their standing in the office. No official action was taken by the company in 97% of the cases.
Sounds like workplace dating is a fairly safe bet — but the survey apparently didn’t ask whether this had any negative effects on the part of the dating person’s spouse! ; – )
Well. for me too, I think workplace dating is safer compared to online dating. At least you know the person you’re dating personally and professionally.
